Hi guys, long time no review. Back to uni got me deprived of pies.
Anyways, I tried Richoux a couple of weeks ago and never published my review. Unfortunately, I found it very underwhelming despite all the hype surrounding their notoriously good pies.
The hype surrounding their pies did make the benchmark higher, but even by “regular bakery” pie standards it didn’t hit the spot. The pastry was probably the best thing about it, as it was extremely soft and flaky. It was quite sweet though.
However, the pie as a whole tasted… off. The gravy was a bit gamey and really sweet. It was as if they had added a lot of sugar to it or something. Like I said, the texture of the pastry was good, but its sweetness made me feel like it should have had custard in it or something which added to the weird overall sweetness of the pie. The steak was nice and tender, although it was heavily lacking in quantity.
For this review I used my more qualitative analysis tool, by observing my desire (or lack thereof) to go and buy another pie. I did not have any desire to eat another pie😢.
Did I buy the wrong pie?? My steak and cheese looks no where near as fancy as the pics I’ve seen. I have no intentions of giving the bakery a bad rep, just sharing my experience.
